Career Pathways
Today, technology and many other factors require a worker to continually improve job related skills to qualify for higher paying jobs. A successful worker needs to engage is a succession of life-long learning activities designed to build skills. Learn about the efforts by the workforce system and training organizations to provide a series of “stepping stones” that will lead you to the job of your choice.
Many workers do not have a clear idea about how to move up from low-skill, low-wage jobs to skilled, living-wage jobs . . . There are many workers with only a high school education or less – relegated to low-skill careers. These workers do not have the skills that are increasingly more important for living-wage careers, and they do not know how to acquire those skills.
That is where career pathways can help. The strategy of the career pathway approach is to look at the skill needs in an industry and see if jobs in the industry can be organized in a way that establishes a logical progression of advancement for a worker.
