Job Center Assistance

The North Central Wisconsin Job Center system is a partnership of organizations providing workforce services, including employment and training assistance.  We can help you access the services you need whether you are an adult looking to find a job or improve your skills for a new career, a laid-off worker looking for a new job or seeking training to improve work related skills, or a young adult exploring career options so you can enter a career of your choice.  The Job Center system has the tools to help you either on-line through this website or in-person by contacting a friendly career specialist.  The choice is yours – Anytime, Anywhere.
• Career Exploration
   Career planning is a lifelong process of using information to make good career choices.  To assist you, an Employment Road Map has been developed to provide step-by-step assistance in exploring career options. Use these tools, strategies and resources to create your own career action plan.  The Career Exploration section of this website also provides a variety of resources about for opportunities.
• Job Search & Placement
  
Job Centers are designed to provide a full-range of services to help you gain and maintain quality employment.  In addition to resources and information found on this website, the following special services are available to assist you:
   Resume and Cover Letter Writing Tool: There are many tools available on the Internet to help you write a good resume and cover letter.  The most widely used tool in the Wisconsin Job Center system is called WinWay Resume Deluxe and it is available for you to use free.  You will need to register to use this program.  Registration is free and all information is confidential.  Click the Sign-Up button in the upper right-hand corner to register and begin preparing your resume and cover letter right now.
   Recruitment Events: The Job Centers partner with a variety of employers and community organizations to host job recruitment events like employer specific or general Job Fairs.  Some events may be hosted at a Job Center while others are held at the employer facility.  Check the Calendar of Events on this website to view upcoming Job Fairs.

• Training and Education
  
Education is the key to obtaining better job opportunities and higher wages.  If you are interested in developing the skills needed to succeed in a fulfilling career, the following program may be available to you.  Many of these programs are offered through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) so funding is available to offset a portion of the cost of training.  You must meet certain eligibility requirements and attend a pre-assessment workshop in order to receive funding for training.  Click on the following links for more information regarding eligibility requirements and the pre-assessment workshop.

Available training programs that may be funded by WIA or another funding source include:
  

Occupational Skills Training: An approved program providing job-related skill training at a technical college or other educational institution.  Training is focused on high-wage, demand occupations in North Central Wisconsin.  Click here to view projected high-growth occupations in the North Central Wisconsin region. 


   Trade Adjustment Assistance: Workers who lost their jobs because of increased imports or moving production to a foreign country may have their occupational skill training paid.  A company must be declared eligible for TAA before benefits can be provided to dislocated workers.  

   Apprenticeships: Learn a trade while you earn a paycheck.  Training is provided through practical on-the-job experience and classroom instruction.  

   Adult Education and Literacy Training: Individualized, small group and classroom instruction to improve reading, writing, math and/or other basic skills. Instruction is usually provided by a technical college or community-based literacy organization.
   High School Completion Programs: Preparation to pass the High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) requirements or the General Education Development (GED) testing (if over 18 and out of school).  Instruction is provided by a technical college.
  

English as a Second Language: English instruction to help immigrant populations learn to read, write, communicate and solve problems at a level needed on the job or in society.  Instruction is usually provided by a technical college or community-based literacy organization.   
    
   Customized Training: Training designed to meet the special needs of an employer, or a group of employers.  Limited to employers who make a commitment to hire the worker at the conclusion of the training.  

Other services available to eligible youth (between the ages of 16 and 21).

   Internships: Hands-on training by working with an employer in the private sector.  The internship may be combined with classroom training or basic skill instruction tailored to the career goals of the youth.  

  

Paid Work Experience: Short-term employment to gain competency and skills.
